How is my order delivered?
Your meat is delivered to you in a Primesafe accredited refrigerated vehicle.
What sort of box will my meat be delivered in?
When you place your order on our website you will be able to choose to have your meat packaged either in a recycled polystyrene box (usually a broccoli box) or in a cardboard box.
How is your meat packaged?
Our meat is cryovaced in BPA free bags. Cryovac is a vacuum seal process that ensures the longest shelf life for a fresh product. All of our meat has a 'best before' date on the label, you can store your order in the fridge until this date and then if you haven't used it by the best before date you can put the meat into the freezer.
*Our sausages, beetroot burgers and crumbed schnitzels are not vacuum sealed (so they don't get squashed).
Farming
What does certified organic mean?
That means our meat comes from animals which are:
- raised on a farm which is audited annually to make sure it complies with organic standards
- weaned using stress-free methods
- fed on organic pastures
- not exposed to synthetic pesticides or herbicides
- never administered antibiotics
- never administered growth hormones
About Our Meat
Is your meat halal?
Yes, our beef and lamb are halal. You can read more about this here.
Please note, our sausages are not halal as we use natural pork casings for these.
What is the availability of your offal meats, why is it always sold out?
Our offal/organ meat is always in high demand however we only have very limited availability. We update the website with new availability each week on a Sunday/Monday evening, however our organ meat is often ordered as soon as it becomes available.
The best thing to do is to go to the product you are hoping to purchase, sign up for the "notify me when available" emails and you will receive an email when the product is available (just order straight away as it won't last long).
Alternatively, another option if you're placing an order for other products is to request the offal you want in the 'delivery requests' section and we will include it if we have it available. If you would like to guarantee you will receive the products, please leave a note requesting to hold the order until everything is available. Often it is the case that we have the offal available however in such limited amounts that we don't display it on our website.
Can I freeze the meat?
Yes, Grass fed meats freeze extremely well and our meat comes vacuum sealed which helps prevent freezer burn. Our meat can be frozen for a minimum of 3 months - some cuts of meat (like roasts) can be frozen for up to 12 months. You can’t harm your meat by leaving it in the freezer too long, however the eating quality deteriorates if meat has been frozen for a long time.
Is Cherry Tree Organics meat certified organic?
Yes, our lamb and beef are certified by Southern Cross you can read more about Southern Cross here. Our butcher shop in Beaconsfield is one of the only certified organic butcher shops in Melbourne.
Are your pigs free range and organic?
Yes, they sure are. You can read more about our pigs here.
What do your pigs eat?
This varies considerably with season, weather and product availability.
Pasture feed includes clover, lucerne and vetch. Our pigs also eat barley grass, rye grass, wheat grass, wild oats, germinated cereal seeds and any weeds which present themselves.

Supplementary feeds include wheat flour, oat flour, oilseed meals (flaxseed, safflower, chia), nuts (walnuts), bran, pollard, rice flour, coconut oil, cocoa butter, safflower oil, tuna hydrolysate, limestone (calcium), phosphorus, zinc, copper, salt.
Our pigs also eat fallen, spoiled or damaged fruit from the orchard in summer/autumn. Soy and corn (maize) are virtually non-existent in their diet, unless we have surplus or downgrade fresh corn that we have grown for ourselves.
Are your beef and lamb 100% grass fed and finished?
Yes, our beef and lamb only ever have mother's milk before grass for their entire lives. They are never ever fed any grain.
